Pinning Ceremony
The Pinning Ceremony is similar to the capping ceremonies of human nursing schools. At Manor, the ceremony occurs in March or April each year to honor students in the Dental Hygiene, EFDA and Veterinary Technology Programs who are leaving campus to pursue externships or employment in clinical practice. Sophomore veterinary technology students who have completed all of their course work and who will be registering for the sophomore clinical externship are eligible to receive a Manor College Veterinary Technology pin. The pin is pinned onto the scrubs of each sophomore student by the Program’s Education Coordinator during this special ceremony, which occurs on a Friday evening in the College gymnasium. In addition, freshman and sophomore students who have achieved a cumulative grade point average above 3.5 and 3.0 are awarded certificates of Excellence and of Merit respectively. The families of the participating students often attend and take photos. Veterinary Technology faculty members and the College administration also attend the event.
All sophomore students who are eligible for externships and all freshmen who are to receive academic certificates must attend the ceremony. Veterinary Technology students wear their uniforms. In addition, the freshmen wear the wrap around navy blue lab coat over their scrubs.
